Patterson took over as Oxford manager in November 2007
Oxford United manager Darren Patterson was delighted that his substitutions paid off as they came from behind to beat Dorchester in FA Cup extra-time.
Patterson, often barracked for his changes, brought Phil Trainer and Yemi Odubade on and the pair scored in the 3-1 first-round replay win.
"Substitutions are a matter of opinion, but I am glad the changes paid off," said Patterson.
"I'm not going to criticise fans, I hope we go on a cup run now for them."
He added: "The Torquay game [in the second round] is massive for us."
U's striker James Constable, who scored the leveller with 12 minutes left of normal time, hopes that the side's victory will lead to a better scoring record on the team's travels.
United have scored just nine goals in 11 away games this season - including the three on Tuesday.
"We haven't been the luckiest in front of goal, but we stuck with it, " he said.
"Obviously the run we have been on away from home hasn't been the best so this is nice."
