Hughes leads Penney's Oldham cull

Lee Hughes
Hughes ended the season on loan at Championship side Blackpool

Oldham manager Dave Penney has made his first changes to the Latics squad, by releasing five players, including top goalscorer Lee Hughes.

Midfielders JP Kalala and Kevin Maher will also join veterans Mark Crossley and Andy Liddell in leaving.

New manager Penney will also discuss the futures of midfielder Mark Allott and Dutch defender Stephan Stam.

Striker Matty Wolfenden has been offered a new short-term deal by the Latics but has yet to accept the offer.

Hughes had scored 25 goals in 51 starts for the Latics but ended the season on loan at Championship side Blackpool.
