Spicer's patience impresses Notts County boss Short
Spicer joined Notts from Doncaster in the summer on a free transfer
Notts County manager Craig Short has paid tribute to the patience shown by midfielder John Spicer.
Spicer, 27, has been limited to five League Two starts since joining the club in the summer, but scored in last weekend's home victory over Plymouth.
Short told BBC Radio Nottingham: "When he has come in he has never let me down. He came in at Wolves and did very very well with no match fitness really.
"His best performance was at Carlisle and he got his goal at the weekend."
Spicer began his career as a trainee at Arsenal, where he made a single League Cup appearance as a substitute against Rotherham at Highbury in October 2003.
The midfielder's first goal for the Magpies came back in August in the Carling Cup, also against Plymouth.
"That's his history - he gets goals and it was well deserved for John to get his goal," added Short.
"It has been difficult for John, as [Ricky] Ravenhill and [Neal] Bishop have been outstanding.
"They have carried on their form from last year and John has had to wait his turn."
