Trew keen to keep Cotterill at Notts County

Notts County chairman Ray Trew has said he is hopeful that manager Steve Cotterill will lead the side in League One next season.

The Magpies took the League Two title with a 5-0 victory at relegated Darlington on Tuesday.

Trew told BBC East Midlands Today he was "optimistically confident" that Cotterill will stay at the club.

He said: "I've just got to finalise my budget. Undoubtedly me and Steve will be sitting down."

Trew said: "He's bought into what Notts County's about. It's a great club, great tradition, great stadium and a great set of supporters.

"He's got a good team we just need some new additions and we can move onwards and upwards."

The chairman said Cotterill would have full financial support and what he thought was a "great budget for League One".

Cotterill, who took over from caretaker manager Dave Kevan in February, when Notts were 14 points off leaders Rochdale, said his future had not yet been determined.

"I need to have a chat with them [chairman and directors] to find out what their hopes and aspirations for the club because that will determine my ambition then as to what I do," he said.

"I think it's a great club, great fan base and a lovely part of the world but we need to make sure we can build on the success we've had so far."

The Magpies will be presented with the League Two trophy at their home match against Cheltenham on Saturday.
