Nottingham boxer Carl Froch has said he wants his next fight in the Super Six tournament to be in his home city.

The 32-year-old lost his WBC super-middleweight title to Mikkel Kessler on Saturday in Denmark.

Now he is determined to fight next opponent Arthur Abraham at the City Ground or Meadow Lane.

He told East Midlands Today: "They want me to fight in Berlin, which is Arthur Abraham's home town - that's not going to happen."

He said: "Hopefully we're going to get it at the Forest or Notts County ground because we need a big venue to make it financially feasible.

"I really need the support of the people. They get that next gear out of you. That's what brought the best out of Michel Kessler and got him the victory."

Froch's comments contradict what he told the BBC on Tuesday, when he said "it has been pretty much agreed that we would fight in a neutral venue".

Froch was unhappy at losing on a unanimous points decision to Kessler, who was fighting in his native country, adding: "The last thing I want to do is to prepare and train for a fight in Germany with the same promoter and have the same problems."

With a win and a loss from his two tournament outings, Froch will face the 30-year-old Abraham in his final group stage fight needing a victory to ensure his progress to the semi-finals.

However, Abraham's promoters have already made it clear they do not want the fight to take place in England, which seems only fair in the circumstances: Abraham also needs to win his final group stage fight to advance, and his last match, a defeat to Andre Dirrell, took place in Dirrell's home state of Michigan.
