McParland happy with Austria trip

Notts County manager Ian McParland has hailed the club's pre-season tour to Austria as a successful build-up for their new season.

The Magpies won one and lost one of their friendly games on the continent.

"The trip has been a success and we got out of it just what I expected and hoped for," McParland said.

"We had two good games and the lads got plenty of hard work in as we had almost three sessions a day. They have all been a real credit to the club."

McParland told the club website: "The players appreciate how lucky the are to have been able to come to Austria and use the facilities we've had at our disposal.

"Preston North End were over the week before, Aberdeen were over at the same time as us, and Chelsea's academy are there next week, so it goes to show higher clubs like the place.

"We get two weeks worth of work done in one week over there."

The Magpies returned to Nottingham at the weekend and travel to Arnold Town on Tuesday, before Nottingham Forest visit Meadow Lane on Saturday.

It was the second year in a row that Notts County have prepared for the new season by basing themselves at the National Sports Centre of Obertraun.
