Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies has not ruled out captain Paul McKenna playing again this season.
Scans have revealed that the knee problem the 32-year-old sustained against Swansea last Saturday is not as serious as first suspected.
Davies said: "Knowing Paul as I do, I wouldn't necessarily rule him out for the rest of the season.
"The extent of Paul's problem is not as bad as we first feared, but he will be out of my plans for several weeks."
McKenna has damaged the medial ligament in his right knee, but he does not require surgery.
Vice-captain Lee Camp is expected to take over the skipper's armband, starting on Saturday against McKenna's former club Preston at Deepdale.
