Norwich City deputy chairman Michael Foulger has bought £2m of ordinary shares in the club to help boost the Canaries' transfer budget.

The City board has stated the funds will be ring-fenced for boss Paul Lambert to use on his squad.

Foulger, who joined the board in 1996, now takes his shareholding up to 15%.

"I'm delighted to be able to invest in the team to help Paul Lambert and his team continue the excellent job they are doing," he told the club website.

"This money will all go to help Paul and his plans for the squad, whether that be when the emergency loan window re-opens or in the summer or both."

The Norfolk-born managing director of Banham Poultry Limited put his hand in his pocket after the club were relegated from the Championship in 2009.

He put up over £350,000 by promising to match any money raised by supporters who waived their right to a rebate on their season ticket following the drop in divisions.

Joint-majority shareholders Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones, whose share has reduced from 61% to 53% as a result of Foulger's investment, added: "Over the years Michael has been exceptionally generous to Norwich City, providing funds for player transfers and personally underwriting the rebate scheme when we were relegated.

"His commitment to the club has been lifelong and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the board to help take NCFC to even greater heights."
