Willy Gueret keen to keep on performing for Kettering

Gueret began his career in France 20 years ago

Kettering Town's veteran goalkeeper Willy Gueret has insisted his career in football is far from over.

The 37-year-old Frenchman recently joined the Poppies from Milton Keynes Dons and made his debut in last week's goalless draw with Crawley Town.

"If you look in the Premier League at the moment, there are goalkeepers who are still playing at 40," Gueret told BBC Radio Northampton.

"So I do believe I have many years ahead of me."

Gueret kept a clean sheet against FA Cup heroes Crawley on his first appearance for Kettering last Thursday night.

"It's always nerve-wracking on debut, but the fact I had an early save to make made it much better," he added. "We have a good squad with a good manager here."

And Gueret - whose previous clubs include Le Mans, Millwall and Swansea City - revealed his disappointment at the circumstances surrounding his departure from the Dons on a free transfer earlier this month.

"I don't really know what happened. All I know is I was told I had to leave, no particular reason," Gueret said.

"It was a hard six months because I was training hard and didn't get a sniff. I just wanted to play some games.

"But at the end of the day that's done now."
