Chris Martin still feeling Norwich City buzz

Chris Martin
Martin has struck three goals in his last six games

Striker Chris Martin believes Norwich City are still cashing in on the confidence they gained from winning last season's League One title.

City are up to fourth in the Championship after Saturday's 2-1 win at fellow play-off chasers Derby.

Martin, 22, told BBC Radio Norfolk: "There's a good atmosphere around the club, especially after last year.

"We've carried that momentum and good feeling forward with us and we're hoping it continues for a long time."

The Canaries are undefeated in their last six games - although that run includes a series of four straight draws - and have never been beaten in consecutive games in the same season under boss Paul Lambert.

After a derby day win over Ipswich Town last week and victory against the Rams, a team who had won their six previous home games, Martin says there is a feel-good factor at Carrow Road.

"Momentum is the key word. You feel it, as the fans have felt it," he said.

"We know we're maybe going to find a sticky patch here or there and that will show our character if we can come out of a period like that."

Martin has found his goalscoring touch with three strikes in his last six outings, after hitting the net just once in his previous 14 league appearances.

But he will be alongside a new forward partner against Portsmouth this weekend as Grant Holt, who has four goals in his last four games, serves a one-match ban for picking up five bookings.

"Holty will be a massive loss for any team, I don't think you can hide that," admitted Martin.

"But we've got Simeon Jackson, Oli Johnson and a few lads waiting in the wings, they've shown their quality when they've played.

"I'm sure it won't affect us too much but Holty's a big presence for the team, he's the captain. It will be a loss but I think we can deal with it."
