Norwich held off Derby to leapfrog above the Rams and move into fourth place in the Championship.
The Canaries took the lead when David Fox's shot deflected off defender Shaun Barker and slipped through the hands of Rams keeper Frank Fielding.
Chris Martin made it 2-0 from Simon Lappin's cross but Derby responded when Kris Commons met Luke Moore's flick.
The Rams continued to press and Paul Green and Tomasz Cywka both went close before Commons blasted wide late on.
Derby came into the game seeking their seventh straight home win but found themselves two goals down on 13 minutes.
Martin and Commons both went close in a thrilling opening period but it was Norwich who made the breakthrough thanks to Fielding's mistake.
After a neat passing move, Fox's shot nicked off Barker's boot, but Fielding should still have been positioned better as he allowed the ball to squirm from his grasp and over the line.
Norwich's second goal arrived just two minutes later, when more good play opened up Derby and Lappin, on the overlap, burst forward before squaring for Martin to head home.
Derby replied almost instantly, when Commons lost his marker and steered Moore's flick into the net, and only a superb save by John Ruddy stopped Paul Green making it 2-2 on 21 minutes.
Green and Commons spurned further chances before the break, and the pattern continued after the restart with Cywka also going close.
Grant Holt was denied by Fielding and Andrew Crofts fired over as Norwich looked to seal their win, but the points were still safe for the Canaries once Commons had blasted wide after skipping clear inside the area.
