Northampton Town midfielder Kevin Thornton was delighted at scoring a crucial goal for the Cobblers in his first start in seven matches.
The 24-year-old Irishman netted after just five minutes of Saturday's 2-0 victory over Stockport in League Two.
"As a player it's not nice to be on the bench but I had my chance here and I think I did myself justice," he told BBC Radio Northampton.
"I'm glad to be back in the team and to get a goal."
He added: "The most important thing was for us to get a win and move up the table.

"At the end of the day the gaffer [manager Ian Sampson] picks the team and it's up to him.
"I can't really go and complain if I'm not in it. I just have to do my stuff on the training ground, and when I get a chance grab it with both hands.
"December is a big month and we need everyone to keep focused."
Northampton's victory at Sixfields pushed them up to 18th place in the League Two table, five points clear of the relegation zone.
