Russell Martin scored his first goal for Norwich on Tuesday
Norwich City defender Russell Martin says his team mates should look for the positives in their defeat by Doncaster on Tuesday.
The Canaries were 3-1 losers but the 24-year-old full-back, who got himself on the scoresheet, was upbeat about his side's performance.
"We can't get too down on ourselves," he told BBC Radio Norfolk.
"We started the season really well and we've given them a good game in the second half."
Paul Lambert's men found themselves 2-0 down within 50 minutes at the Keepmoat Stadium and Martin is wary of handing teams an early advantage in matches.
"We didn't start the game well enough. We can't keep giving teams a goal start. I think we've given away a sloppy goal in the first half which has given us a mountain to climb," he said.
The defender's second-half header was his first strike for Norwich, but he admits he has been left with a bitter-sweet feeling.
"I should have probably scored by now but it doesn't mean anything," he continued.
"It's a bit of a cliché but I'd rather we took the three points and I didn't score that's for sure."
The Canaries face another away trip on Saturday, this time against Preston, but Martin said the Doncaster defeat should not be something that is weighing heavy on their mind.
"There's a lot of positives despite the defeat," he added.
"Chris Martin has played brilliantly, he's in really good form and he's working really hard.
"Jacko [Simeon Jackson] looked lively when he came on and Anthony [McNamee] carried on from Saturday and kept getting at his full back and getting some crosses in."
