Norwich City will be without Andrew Surman for around two months after he injured his knee in training.
The 24-year-old midfielder, who joined the Canaries from Wolves during the summer, missed Saturday's 2-1 Championship win over Barnsley.
Boss Paul Lambert told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Andrew's going to be out for a little bit, he's hurt his knee and is going to be out for a number of weeks.
"At least a couple of months, it's a blow, but that's why you have a squad."
Lambert added: "It's a blow, but Simon Lappin came in and done great for me, and as I've said before, we're a team.
"I have a lot of faith in the lads that will come in and do a job."
Goalkeeper John Ruddy also missed the game against Barnsley, but Lambert said his absence will not be long-term.
"He got a dead-leg on Thursday, quite a bad one, but he's better today," he said.
"John, hopefully, will be okay for next week."
