Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy is out to persuade supporters that Fraser Forster should become a distant memory.

Forster, 22, became a fans' favourite last season while on loan from Newcastle, but 23-year-old Ruddy reckons it is time to move on.

He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I'm John Ruddy. I'm not Fraser Forster, I'm not Robert Green, I'm not anyone who's been at Norwich before.

"This is now a step for me to say to people 'this is what I can do'."

The stopper arrived at Carrow Road from Everton in the summer after spending the last campaign on loan at Motherwell.

He kept 15 clean sheets in the Scottish Premier League last season and hopes to repeat the feat in England's second tier.

"I understand people really, really liked Fraser, that's fair enough he did a fantastic job and helped them win the league," he said.

"I'm confident that I can come here and keep 15 to 20 clean sheets again. If I don't I'll be disappointed in myself.

"I know in my own head what standards I set for myself and I aim to be as good, if not better than Fraser."

The former Cambridge United man has had a mixed start to his Canaries career.

After dropping a clanger against the Toffees in a pre-season friendly and conceding three in the Championship opener at home to Watford, he recovered to make a string of saves in City's 4-1 Carling Cup win over Gillingham.

He will hope to continue the improvement away at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

"I was disappointed with my performance on Friday [against Watford]. I was chasing the game, waiting for something to happen," he continued.

"That's not the way you go about it, you wait for the game to come to you.

"Tuesday I was more willing to let it come to me and I dealt with what I had to deal with."
