Norwich City captain Grant Holt targets record season

Grant Holt is aiming to break the record for the most goals scored in a season by a Norwich City player.

The 28-year-old striker became the first City player for 46 years to score 30 goals in a season on Monday.

After a challenge from manager Paul Lambert, Holt is now targeting Terry Allcock's 37-goal haul of 1962/63.

"They're going in thick and fast and the gaffer challenged me to break the record, but another against Stockport would have helped," Holt said.

He added: "Obviously it's in the back of my mind, I want to get it, but the most important thing first of all is to get promoted and then win the league.

"If I score as many as I can and get close to it, of course I want to beat it if I can. Records are there to be broken."

"If I do get it, I'd be amazed if we're not promoted and not champions of this league."

Holt was full of praise for team-mate Anthony McNamee who, on a rare start, scored City's opener and helped set up Holt's winner in the 2-1 Easter Monday win over Stockport.

"He done well, he's been biding his time as he was in for a bit, then back out of the side.

"Obviously we're disappointed with Wes [Hoolahan] getting injured this week, but Macca's come in and done well," Holt said.

"We know what he's got, we know what he's about, it's just getting him in the team and playing a way that suits him, I thought he was superb today," he added.
