Nelson scored for Hartlepool in last season's FA Cup

Norwich defender Michael Nelson says he was delighted to put memories of his debut firmly behind him with a goal in the 2-0 win over old club Hartlepool.

Nelson started City's 7-1 defeat by Colchester on the opening day and did not play again until Saturday's win.

He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I've been itching to get back in since the first day of the season. That wasn't me on the first day.

"Hopefully the fans who've seen us today will know that's more like me."

"Not just the goal, because they probably won't see that again, but performance-wise, grinding things out, I think that's what I've got to offer."

Nelson scored with a scissor-kick to give Norwich a 1-0 first-half lead against Pools, and he admitted it is a sight Norwich fans should not get too accustomed to.

"I've scored a couple of goals, never an overhead-kick though, some of the lads say you get one of them a season, I think I get one a career," he said.

"I've probably used that one up now, I couldn't get there with my head so I thought I'd just chuck something at it and see what happens, I couldn't have hit it any sweeter really."

Nelson joined Norwich in June after his contract at Victoria Park expired, but he felt the hostile reception he received was a touch harsh.

"It was a bit mixed really, after six years service there was probably more boos than cheers," he said.

"I played over 300 games for them in six years, I don't think they've had many players do that, so it was very satisfying to get the goal," he said.
