Despite their precarious position in the Championship table Norwich City's fans have bucked the general downturn in season tickets trend.
Nearly 17,000 supporters chose to renew their season tickets ahead of the first renewal deadline last Saturday.
Canaries' chief executive Neil Doncaster told BBC Radio Norfolk the figures reflect staunch loyalty.
"I'm delighted, to have achieved this number of renewals is incredible and testament to the loyalty of our fans."
He added: "I am surprised, in the context of where we are in the division, the difficult season that we've had and the extremely difficult economic conditions that the country's suffering at the moment.
"I think to have achieved these results in that context makes them even more surprising and even more delightful."
Saturday's deadline was the last opportunity for current season ticket holders to get the best discount on next year's tickets, and at the time the club had not won in six matches.
The figures are slightly down on the same point last season, but still represent the second highest early-renewal figure in the club's history.
