Lupoli short on match sharpness

Arturo Lupoli admits he is only 60-70% match fit going into the new Championship season.

The former Arsenal striker, on loan from Italian side Fiorentina, made his long-awaited Norwich debut in a friendly with Colchester on Saturday.

The Italian FA only granted Lupoli international clearance on the eve of the match, ten days after he signed.

He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "It's been frustrating; I'm trying to train as hard as I can so I will get there."

Lupoli added: "I'm about 60-70% fit but in two or three weeks I can go to 100%."

The 21-year-old came through the first half of the 2-2 draw with Colchester but was withdrawn at half-time as a precaution because of a slight groin injury.

Lupoli's replacement Darel Russell then scored both Norwich goals at Carrow Road in the draw with the League One side.

The Italian won promotion to the top-flight with Derby County in 2007 during a loan spell from Arsenal. He returned to his native country that summer but already has his eyes on a more permanent return to England.

"I prefer English football because it suits the way I am playing," Lupoli said.

"I would like to stay in England for more than a year and maybe get in the Premier League with this team, it would be a dream."
