Northampton Town lose John Johnson card appeal

Oxford Utd v Northampton

Oxford Utd 3-1 Northampton

Northampton Town have failed in their bid to get John Johnson's red card in Saturday's defeat by Oxford overturned.

Johnson, 22, is set for a one-match ban meaning he will miss Tuesday's League Cup tie with Ipswich Town.

The defender was adjudged to have pulled down U's midfielder Simon Clist when he was through on goal in the 3-1 League Two reverse.

Centre-half Craig Hinton could make his first appearance of the season against Town following a bout of tendinitis.

Cobblers boss Ian Sampson has not ruled out the possibility of strengthening his side in the loan market.

He told the club's website: "We are still looking to bring in a centre-half, but Dean Beckwith will be back from suspension for the Gillingham game [Saturday], so that is a bonus for us."
