Crosby's last role was assistant manager at Middlesborough
Northampton Town boss Ian Sampson has named Malcolm Crosby as his assistant, with first-team coach Jim Barron leaving the club.
Crosby initially joined the Cobblers after the 5-2 defeat to Notts County, while Sampson was caretaker manager.
Sampson told the club website: "The players respect him a lot, and he has been a big support to me.
"He has a vast amount of experience and it will be ideal for me as a young manager to be able to tap in to that."
Former goalkeeper Barron had also held the position of joint caretaker manager in 2006, following the departure of John Gorman.
"A new manager always likes to shape things his own way and we part on good terms with Jim," added Sampson.
"We are fortunate that we have an experienced goalkeeper in Simon Brown on our books, and his knowledge has already been helping Chris Dunn and Paul Walker on the training field over the last few weeks."
