Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray has confirmed his interest in the former Port Vale striker Luke Rodgers.
The 27-year-old forward was released from his contract at Vale Park by mutual agreement last Friday.
"I remember when I first came to this football club, Luke caused us problems while he was playing for Crewe," Gray told BBC Radio Northampton.
"We have a shortage of bodies now, and I'll be looking to strengthen the squad this week," he added.
Rodgers began his career at Shrewsbury and moved on to Crewe before joining Vale for 30,000 in January 2007.
He has recently been on loan with Northampton's League One rivals, Yeovil Town.
