Newcastle striker Lovenkrands confident of cup progress
Lovenkrands has made four appearances this season, scoring once
Newcastle United striker Peter Lovenkrands believes the club has a realistic chance of Carling Cup success when they meet Arsenal on Wednesday.
The Magpies progressed to the fourth round courtesy of an impressive 4-3 away win at Premier League champions Chelsea in September.
"We have a chance but Arsenal will be tough," Lovenkrands told BBC Newcastle.
"If we do get through, the teams left in the competition are all sides that we have a good chance against."
Lovenkrands added: "If we can beat Chelsea away then we can beat Arsenal at home."
Chris Hughton has retained faith in his 'Carling Cup line-up' so far in the competition this season, fusing players on the fringes of the first-team, such as Ryan Taylor and Sol Campbell, with a string of promising academy talents such as Shane Ferguson and Haris Vuckic.
"We have a lot of good young boys, with the ability they have and the talent they have, this is a great game for them," Lovenkrands said of the younger elements of the team.
"It's a chance to go out and try to improve themselves and show themselves to the first-team coaches too."
Denmark international Lovenkrands joined Newcastle for a second spell in August 2009, helping the club to the Championship title with 13 goals in 29 league appearances.
This season the former Rangers forward has made just four appearances in the first-team, two of which came in the Carling Cup, with his solitary goal coming in the 3-2 victory over Accrington Stanley in August.
