Newcastle defender Jose Enrique eyes Man United scalp
Enrique joined the Magpies from Villarreal in August 2007
Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique believes his side has nothing to fear when they travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on 16 August.
The Magpies open their Premier League campaign away to last season's runners up, and Enrique says his side can cause an upset on their top flight return.
"I think we can win," the Spanish defender told BBC Newcastle.
"It's better to play them in the first few games because they aren't at 100%. I think this is good for us."
United's last visit to Old Trafford saw Kevin Keegan's side leave with an impressive 1-1 draw in a repeat of this season's opener.
However, the result was one of few highlights in a season which ended in turmoil on Tyneside, with relegation to the Football League.
Enrique and his team-mates bounced back by cruising to the Championship title last season, but the lively full-back knows that Premiership survival is the club's main priority this term.
"The most important thing is to keep in the division but of course if we play well we can move up the table," the 24-year-old continued.
After moving to Tyneside from Villarreal for £6.3m in 2007, the former Spain Under-21 international has become a favourite at St James' Park, and he is grateful for the fans' support.
"When you play well you enjoy it because the fans will like you and everyone knows the fans here are unbelievable," Enrique added.
