Newcastle Vipers have added goaltender Charlie Effinger and defenceman Scott Langdon to their roster for the 2010-11 Elite League season. Effinger, 24, signs from US college league outfit Miami University while Langdon, 25, enjoyed a spell with Conference League side Reading Royals. "Charlie is a huge signing for the club, a top end goalie," Stewart said. "Meanwhile, Scott is a great signing and gives us a lot of toughness and quality at the back end." Stewart had been seeking a replacement goaltender since the departure of Michel Robinson, and the former Coventry Blaze forward is confident Langdon can fill the void. "He makes our team so much better at the most important position in hockey," Stewart continued. "He had the second best numbers in the College Hockey League last season and a great season the year before for the Trenton Devils of the East Coast Hockey League. | I am excited about this signing as I wanted to have some size, toughness and quality on defence and Scott is the perfect description of that Vipers coach Danny Stewart |
"Charlie had a fantastic college career at Miami University (Ohio) where he won a conference championship so he is a proven winner." And the Vipers coach, set for his debut season in management on Tyneside, is also convinced that Langdon offers the defensive steel his side has been lacking. "He is a very good hitter and will be a pain to opposing teams in the small confines of the Whitley Bay ice arena. He is a good solid defenceman that can skate and also join the rush when needed. "He plays hard and physical every night and also will not back down from anyone. "I am excited about this signing as I wanted to have some size, toughness and quality in defence and Scott is the perfect description of that."
