Morecambe say the finishing touches are being put in place to have their new Globe Arena home ready for its unveiling on 24 and 25 July.

The development, in the Westgate area of the resort, will have a capacity of just over 6,800 and will include seating and terracing.

Commercial director Mark Dixon told BBC Radio Lancashire: "We've probably got more than 200 guys on site now.

"Three weeks on Saturday is when we open the doors to the fans."

The first row of seating is being installed and the club expect the Globe Arena to be fully functional in time to host Bolton Wanderers for the first ever match there on 28 July.

Dixon said: "All the trades are here. The joiners, the painters and decorators. The guys are here to fit the seats and the terracing is almost there.

"Any major project like this takes a bit of getting used to. The guys are very confident, there is a big gang of lads here now and we're three weeks away."

The new development also includes corporate facilities, a gym, a bar, club shop and function rooms, as well as full size seven-a-side and five-a-side football facilities, which can also be used for netball and hockey.
