MK Dons have signed former Republic of Ireland Under-23 midfielder Shaun Williams on a one-year deal.
The 24-year-old is out of contract after his former club Sporting Fingal folded in February.
The Dons are now seeking clarification from Fifa and the Football League on if he can play for them this season.
Manager Karl Robinson said: "He was sought after by a number of clubs and it is terrific news that he chose a move to MK Dons."
Williams, who recently turned out for Burnley reserves, was voted 2010's Professional Footballers' Association of Ireland Young Player of the Year.
