Danny Graham scored in his fifth successive match as Watford got their play-off challenge back on track with a smash-and-grab raid at Ipswich.
Troy Deeney gave the Hornets an early lead but they were then forced to spend much of the game on the back foot.
However, Graham dispatched a John Eustace cross just after the hour to give the visitors breathing space.
To complete Ipswich's misery, Don Cowie lashed home a 25-yard shot for Watford in stoppage time.
The win moves them up to eighth in the Championship table, within four points of the top six.
Ipswich's fifth defeat since Paul Jewell replaced Roy Keane as manager in January means they remain 16th on 46 points.
It could have been very different though had Town defender Gareth McAuley's header found the net instead of hitting the post as the home side responded well to Deeney's close-range opener.
They also saw a Carlos Edwards shot blocked by Ross Jenkins and another McAuley header fly over the bar.
Watford served warning they were capable of adding to their lead five minutes after break when Adam Thompson raced on to Eustace's cut-back and fired an angled drive narrowly over.
With just over an hour played Watford did double their lead when Eustace's cross was dispatched by Graham into the bottom corner for his 24th goal of the season.
It was a deflating blow for the home side who offered little afterwards, before being forced to watch on as Cowie struck a superb long-range third for Watford a minute into injury-time.
