Middlesbrough boss Mowbray eager for Emnes to return

Emnes scored twice in four games during his loan spell at Swansea

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray is eager to incorporate out-of-favour winger Marvin Emnes into the side after his loan spell at Swansea expired.

The 22-year-old, who was signed for £3.2m by former Boro boss Gareth Southgate in 2008, has scored just once during his time at the Riverside.

But Mowbray told the club website: "I'm looking forward to working with him.

"Hopefully he will see he has a manager here who has empathy and that our football suits our style of play."

He added: "I've talked to him and he seems like a nice kid. He's looking forward to the challenge of getting in the team."

The Netherlands Under-21 international joined the Swans a week before Mowbray's appointment as Middlesbrough manager, after failing to impress former boss Gordon Strachan.

He went on to score twice during his time at the Liberty Stadium, including the winner in the derby against Cardiff before his loan spell expired last Wednesday.

And although the new Boro boss admitted the former Sparta Rotterdam player would be unlikely to continue playing as striker, a position he has enjoyed success in his month at Swansea, Mowbray remained adamant the youngster would offer a new dimension to his side.

"He is a wide player with some pace so we can utilise his talents in our team. He's got a part to pay in weeks to come.

"He is fairly versatile and comes back with a bit of confidence from the goals he scored at Swansea."
