Marvin Emnes has made three appearances for Swansea on loan

Swansea City's hopes of holding on to winger Marvin Emnes beyond his one month loan spell look set to be dashed.

The 22-year-old Dutch international is halfway through his stay in south Wales and took just five minutes of his debut against Leicester to score.

But new Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray wants to look at his whole squad after succeeding Gordon Strachan last week.

"I'd like to take a look at all of them and assess them, to be fair to the whole squad," said Mowbray.

"But Marvin is on a 28-day loan and we can't bring him back before that, while Watford aren't going to agree to Andrew Taylor coming back so it is what it is.

"It's only fair to the players who are out on loan to bring them back and assess them.

"We will certainly send someone out to have them watched where they are but I would prefer to have them back here."

Emnes cost Middlesbrough £3.2m when they signed him from Sparta Rotterdam in 2008 and was part of the squad that got relegated from the Premier League under Gareth Southgate that season.

Southgate lost his job last October, but Emnes did not feature at all under Strachan during his year in charge and was allowed to go out on loan.

Meanwhile, Swans midfielder Mark Gower could be back for Sunday's south Wales derby against Cardiff City.

The 32-year-old is back in full training having missed the last four games after tearing a hamstring during the 1-0 win at Reading on 16 October.
