Middlesbrough winger Marvin Emnes is currently on trial with Bundesliga 2 outfit Fortuna Dusseldorf.
BBC Tees understands the German side are keen to take the £3.2m signing from Sparta Rotterdam on a season-long loan.
Emnes, 21, has failed to hold down a regular place at Boro, making 31 league appearances in two seasons.
The former sprinter played 55 times and scored nine goals for Sparta before moving to Teesside and is a Netherlands under-21 international.
