Yeates hopes career will blossom

Middlesbrough winger Mark Yeates is confident that the move to Teesside will boost his career and the club's fortunes.

The 24-year-old hopes to give newly-relegated Boro a lift having signed for Gareth Southgate's men following two seasons at Colchester.

"My ambition here is to make myself a household name with the club and the fans," he told BBC Tees.

"There's no reason we can't have a successful season."

Despite Middlesbrough's relegation, Yeates needs no introduction to the Championship.

"Everyone comes into pre-season and they aren't looking forward to it but for myself it's a massive move," he said.

"The Championship is something I'm used to, I was on loan at Leicester and Hull and spent a whole season with Colchester in the division as well.

"I like to get on the ball. Last season I clocked up quite a few goals and hopefully I can come up here and do the same.

"I'll let everyone judge for themselves once the games come, it's all well and good speaking and saying things but until you start getting into the competitive football, no-one can judge you."
