Boateng agrees Boro switch
George Boateng is on his way to Middlesbrough
Boateng wanted to leave Villa Park
Middlesbrough have agreed personal terms with George Boateng over his proposed move from Aston Villa.

The Dutch international midfielder's transfer now depends on the player passing a medical.

Boateng told Villa's official website: "I am delighted to finally conclude everything.

"I'd like to thank everyone at Villa for what they have done for me, but now I'm looking forward to playing for Middlesbrough."

Boro boss Steve McClaren and Villa have already agreed a fee, believed to be in the region of 5m, for the Dutch international.

McClaren has already spent 16m since the end of last season and would like Boateng to replace Paul Ince, who was released by the Teessiders.

5m: George Boateng

Boateng has been on the transfer-list at Villa Park since the end of last season, and was not in Villa's Intertoto Cup squad against FC Zurich.

Prior to Boateng agreeing personal terms, Boro assistant boss Steve Harrison said he was confident that an agreement with the midfielder would be reached.

Harrison said: "Hopefully, we can get it sorted out. There are still one or two things to sort out, but hopefully they can be sorted.

"He's a different player to the type we have. He's a destroyer in many respects.

"He makes more tackles than anyone else on the field, he gives the ball simply, uses it simply, he's very strong, very energetic and has great strength.

"He's more a breaker-up of situations than a creator.

"He won't thank me for saying that but that's the sum total.

"We're trying to build an exciting side, we're trying to build on the foundation of last year, adding more flair and fluidity.

"With the type of players we have brought in, are trying to bring in, and the players we already have, let's hope that comes to fruition."
