Former Chesterfield winger Ben Algar will play for Mansfield Town in Saturday's friendly at Alfreton.
The 19-year-old trialist made six appearances for the Spireites first-team last season.
Stags manager David Holdsworth told the club's website: "He has lots of pace and tricks.
"I am keen to give this man an opportunity. He was with Sheffield United for a long time and then had a spell at Chesterfield."
Steven Istead and Jake Speight should also face Alfreton after recovering from injuries, but Rob Duffy (thigh) is expected to be rested.
