Macclesfield Town midfielder Hamza Bencherif says he is still not fully fit after returning to the first team.

The 22-year-old former Algeria Under-20 international's first season at the club was cut short after breaking his ankle mid-way through last season.

He told the club website: "I'm fit enough to go out there and do a job but I still think that I can get better.

"I know that I'm not 100% yet and still have a lot of hard work to get myself back up to my full potential."

Bencherif began his English football career at Nottingham Forest but was unable to break into the first team and had a short spell on loan at Lincoln City.

The midfielder scored his second goal of the season at the weekend as the Silkmen recorded their first home league win of the season against Northampton.

"We've been under a bit of pressure at home recently because we'd not been getting the results," he added.

"I think we've found our way now and have been playing well, so that should lead to better results and perhaps a few more people coming to watch, which would be a good boost to the team."
