Assistant boss Gary Brabin backs Luton Town title bid
Gary Brabin was promoted to assistant manager in May
Assistant manager Gary Brabin says Luton Town are strong contenders for the Blue Square Premier title after a series of new arrivals at the club.
Keeper Kevin Pilkington, defender Dan Gleeson and striker Danny Crow have all joined the club in the summer.
Brabin told BBC Three Counties Radio: "We're building a side that's good enough to be challenging for an automatic promotion place.
"There are other areas [of the squad] we are still keeping an eye on."
A 14-match unbeaten run at the end of last season saw Luton finish as runners-up before losing to York in the play-off semi-final.
"We weren't a million miles off last season, but we are always looking to improve the team as well as getting the best out of the players we've got."
"We made a bit of a late surge, and it's always easy to wonder what if we had been there a little earlier.
"I believe we could have gone and won it but it wasn't to be."
Brabin will work as assistant manager to Richard Money having spent a season scouting for the club and has previously managed Gleeson and Crow during his spell in charge at Cambridge United.
"There's no doubting they're good players," he said.
"Other members at the club, including Richard Money, have shared their own opinion of the players, and I think they'll be two good signings for the club."
