Luton Town began their pre-season programme with a 3-1 victory at United Counties League side St Neots.

Goals from Alan White, Adam Newton and Lawrence Hunter saw the Hatters secure the win in a game they dominated.

Manager Mick Harford told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It's always difficult when you come to a place like this, because they always raise their game.

"We dominated the game and should have scored a lot more goals. I was pleased with the fitness of every player."

With 21 Hatters players being given a work-out, Harford added: "After seven days of pre-season training we haven't done any finishing work or ball-work or anything.

"It has just been about getting ourselves fit and ready to try and play these games."

We never got away last year, but it is important for team-building and obviously to try and go and win a tournament

Luton now move down to Devon for the week where they will take part in the South West Challenge Cup.

And Harford insisted it will be an important part of his side's build-up for the new season.

"It is vitally important," he said. "We never got away last year, but it is important for team-building and obviously to try and go and win a tournament and for fitness and team shape.

"We'll go down there and work on what we want to work on in terms of preparing ourselves for the season ahead."

Luton face one of the host sides, Bideford, on Wednesday evening, before meeting local rivals Wycombe on Friday at Appledore.

The semi-finals and final will be played on Saturday and Sunday.
