Winger Simon Russell has left Cambridge United and joined Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Lincoln City on a one-year deal.
The 26-year-old former Kidderminster player featured in the Imps' latest pre-season win, 4-1 at Brigg Town and has joined City on a free transfer.
He told BBC Lincolnshire: "It is a no-brainer, it's a massive club.
"Lincoln are a League club and the manager wants to have a good crack at getting straight back to the league."
The U's signed Russell last year from York and he was entitled to a new contract for next season as part of his previous deal, although the club asked him not to take it on those terms because they are cutting costs.
