Lincoln City budget call backed by Chris Travers

Lincoln City

Lincoln City director Chris Travers has backed a call from departing chairman Steff Wright for the club's board to stretch next season's playing budget.

Wright said the board should take a 'calculated gamble' in giving manager Chris Sutton extra funds for players.

Travers told BBC Lincolnshire: "As a board we owe it to the club, to Chris, to the fans and to ourselves to push the boat out as far as we can.

"If that needs more financing than in the past, it would get my vote."

Travers added: "You have to look at the timing of these situations and I believe we have a manager who has the ability to take this club forward.

"We'll never bankrupt the club just to chase a dream and we've all seen too many examples of reckless gambles, but I would certainly be in favour of any forward-looking plans."

Wright is standing down as Lincoln chairman at the end of the season, having held the post for five years.
