Lincoln board should take 'calculated gamble' - Wright
Steff Wright has been chairman of Lincoln City since 2005
Lincoln City should be prepared to stretch the budget to keep the likes of Davide Somma next season, according to departing club chairman Steff Wright.
Somma scored his eighth goal in the 1-0 win over Bury which guaranteed League Two safety for Chris Sutton's side.
Wright told BBC Lincolnshire: "We'd like to keep him. Chris would like to build a team around Davide next season.
"The board should be ambitious and take a calculated gamble in spending a little more to bring a player in."
Wright, who stands down as chairman in the summer, added: "The reason the board can do that is because they don't have half a million pounds of debt that they've got to fill because they've managed the club badly."
With Football League status finally secure for another season, a relieved Wright admitted: "Nobody wants to be at the helm of a club when it's relegated to the Conference.
"Personally I didn't want that, but this isn't just a one-man show, this is about everyone involved with the club.
"We probably could have picked up more points but generally I think what we've seen are the building blocks for what could be a good team for next season."
