Ian Pearce surprised by Lincoln City appointment

Lincoln City assistant manager Ian Pearce admits he and Imps boss Chris Sutton did not expect to move into management as soon as they did.

Pearce told BBC Lincolnshire: "We were looking for opportunities and this one came along.

"We were lucky enough to go through the interview process. That was the main thing for us, to get that experience under our belts.

"But Chris did so well in the interview that the board offered us the job."

Sutton was appointed in October following the dismissal of Peter Jackson and brought in his former Blackburn team-mate Pearce as his assistant.

Pearce, who briefly retired as a player before making a comeback with the Imps, added: "It's a steep learning curve but it's something I'm really enjoying and I look forward to coming to work every day.

"I won't lie, there's nothing like playing and you do miss it when you stop.

"But being on the training ground among the players means you don't miss it too much."
