Lincoln City assistant manager Iffy Onuora says everyone involved with the Imps needs to give manager Peter Jackson time to return to full health.
The Imps boss is currently recuperating after treatment for throat cancer.
The pair met earlier this week to discuss plans for next season including which players to offer new deals to.
But Onuora told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We've just got to be patient with his [Jackson's] rehabilitation. That's the important part, we can't rush it."
He added: "I think it's been good for him that the last few games he has been able to relax and know that the side, and particularly the young players, have moved on a bit. So that has helped him as well."
Lincoln have confirmed that Jackson will not be at the club's final game of the season at home to Wrexham on Saturday.
But writing for the club's website, and the matchday programme, Jackson said: "It is incredible to think that my team are going into the final game of the season with a realistic chance of finishing the season with 61 points.
"To have doubled our points tally in the space of three months is a staggering effort."
