Kidderminster Harriers defender Martin Riley said his team got a telling off from manager Mark Yates, despite winning their opening game.
Harriers beat Hayes & Yeading 1-0 at Aggborough, but almost conceded a goal in the last minutes of the game.
"The gaffer gave us a telling off, and he's not too happy, as they had two good chances," Riley told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"We know we can do better but we'll take three points and a clean sheet."
He added: "We feel solid at the back, we were happy with our pre-season, the lads are feeling good along the back four."
Riley says they will be confident going in the clash at Salisbury on Tuesday 11 August (1945 BST)
"We are playing some good stuff and we fancy ourselves against anyone."
BBC Hereford and Worcester will have coverage of Kidderminster Harriers against Salisbury on a Sports Special with commentary on line at bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester.
