Matthew Barnes-Homer scored the only goal of the game to give Kidderminster a winning start to the season against newly promoted Hayes & Yeading.
Harriers took the lead midway through the first half when Barnes-Homer struck from just outside the box.
Simon Overland impressed in goal for United as he denied the Kidderminster attack with a series of good saves.
Esmond James and Ram Marwa went close in the second half for United but Harriers held on for the win.
Kidderminster manager Mark Yates told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "It was hot out there and they made it difficult for us by getting a lot of men behind the ball.
"We didn't really find the rhythm that we have been playing with.
"So, all in all, it was three points and we now move on to Tuesday [at Salisbury City]."
Hayes and Yeading manager Gary Haylock told BBC London 94.9: "On the balance of play we deserved a draw.
"We didn't take our chances and Kidderminster had one good chance and took it and we've ended up with a 1-0 defeat.
"It's a steep learning curve, but I think we've proved we've got the ability, the fitness and the focus, but we just need to put it together for 90 minutes."
