Player-coach Tommy Jaszczun has quit Kettering Town after he was asked to take a wage cut.

The 33-year-old returned for a second stint at the club this summer after originally leaving in 2009.

Jaszczun told BBC Radio Northampton: "They offered me a decrease in my wages and I wasn't prepared to take that.

"I haven't fallen out with anyone. I was born in Kettering, I still love the club but unfortunately I can't do it for the money they're offering me."

The defender was assistant manager under Lee Harper, who left the club by mutual consent in September, but stayed on as coach under new boss, Marcus Law.

"It was a shock for me to get the call back to the club with Lee," Jaszczun said.

"I was inexperienced but the chairman thought I'd be good at it and I didn't have to think twice. It was a great opportunity for me.

"Marcus Law brought in his own methods which the lads have bought into, and he's had some positive results."

"He's a good manager and he'll turn out to be a great manager, whether it's at Kettering or somewhere else."

Jaszczun played one competitive game for the Poppies this season, focusing instead on his coaching role.

"I can't do a lot until January, now. Maybe I'll do something with the coaching, which I have enjoyed, and I'm not sure whether I'd go back to playing," he said.

"I'll spend time with my family over Christmas, which is unusual for a footballer, and see where things takes me in the New Year."
