Wood relishing Premiership challenge

Northampton Saints flanker Tom Wood says he has an idea of where he sits in the England pecking order after training with the national squad.

Wood has helped Saints side reach the top of the Aviva Premiership table in his first season at Franklin's Gardens.

The 24-year-old represented England Saxons in this year's Churchill Cup.

"It's always good to get a little bit of recognition and know where you stand in the pecking order," Wood told BBC Radio Northampton.

"But as long as you're playing well, keeping fit and training hard at your club, you just have to leave it to them to pick the team.

"I try to set my own standards and work hard.

"I've always done analysis on myself and looked at ways to improve. I'm getting a lot of dedicated coaching here [at Northampton] and there's always something new to work on."

Wood has made 11 league and cup appearances for Northampton so far this season.
