No signs that Roy Keane is 'cracking' - Carlos Edwards

Keane left Sunderland with the team 18th in the Premier League

Ipswich Town midfielder Carlos Edwards says boss Roy Keane is showing no signs of being a man under pressure.

Edwards, 32, played under Keane when the Irishman quit as Sunderland boss just over two years ago.

And despite Town losing their last six Championship games, Edwards does not see Keane walking out of Portman Road.

"He's the same old Roy Keane that I knew from then until now. I've not seen any signs of him cracking," he told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"We were having him banter within training because he was cloaked up from head to toe.

"So obviously we told him he was a bit soft. It's a bit of banter between manager and player and when it comes to proper training we are professionals."

The Blues' torrid run has seen them drop to 18th in the table and, despite a League Cup semi-final with Arsenal on the horizon, the low point of the season came last Saturday with defeat at bottom-of-the-table Preston.

"The guys are sticking together because we know we are not a team that has deserved to lose six games on the trot," Edwards added.

"The results state that we have and the guys are disappointed but we know we were capable of winning the majority of those games we lost.

"I can't blame it on effort because the lads have given it a right good effort, you look back at last weekend. We were all over Preston, they got one good chance and that's it."

Edwards, who is one of 21 players out of contract at the end of the season, says the club has yet to approach him with a new deal.

"I haven't heard a word. I'd love to stay on as long as possible," he said.

"But with the situation maybe contract talk is on hold but until further notice my job is to concentrate on trying to get us back up the table."
