Trotter was part of Scunthorpe's League One promotion-winning team
Liam Trotter has signed a new one-year contract with Ipswich Town but admits he was torn between his hometown club and Scunthorpe United.
The 20-year-old midfielder was on loan at Glanford Park last season and it is believed the Iron offered him a longer-term deal than Ipswich.
Trotter told BBC Suffolk: "It's been up and down with a few twists and turns.
"Every now and again I've been thinking 'am I making the right decision?' But I'm happy with my decision now."
Ipswich have released 10 of the 13 players who were out of contract at the end of June, and Trotter says manager Roy Keane's faith in offering him a new deal was a "massive boost".
He said: "When you look at the amount of players he has let go, to be one of the select few that he actually wants to keep around his club now, that's a boost to my confidence."
