Ipswich Town defender Alex Bruce has turned down the offer of a new two-year contract at Portman Road.
The 24-year-old is free to talk to other clubs with less than six months remaining on his current deal.
Ipswich chief executive Derek Bowden told the club website: "We consider the offer to be a very good one but I can confirm that it has been rejected."
Bowden says the matter is now closed, which could alert other clubs to Bruce's situation.
The Republic of Ireland international is believed to want new terms which bring him towards parity with other team-mates at Ipswich.
The club had previously said they would not be entering negotiations until April with any of the 14 players who are out of contract in the summer.
Bruce has been linked with moves to other Football League clubs as well as Italian teams including Fiorentina.
