Ipswich close to naming new coach

Richard Wright

Ipswich Town manager Jim Magilton says he expects to have a new goalkeeping coach at the club by the beginning of next week.

Magilton told the club website he has spoken to a number of candidates who are interested in taking on the job.

"We are at the stage now where we are discussing the final details and then we can move on from there," he said.

"We will be making an announcement very soon, I'm hoping it will be over the weekend or at the start of next week."

Southampton coach Malcolm Webster has been strongly linked with a return to Portman Road, along with his former charge Richard Wright who last played for Ipswich in 2001 and spent the end of last season on loan at St Mary's from parent club West Ham.

Magilton has admitted he would like to see Wright back in Suffolk.

"It's been well documented that we would be interested in Richard if he is available but we have also enquired about other keepers."
